Manfred Orlow

Manfred Otto Orlow, age 69, was born July 11, 1943 in Hamburg, Germany. He transitioned to his new life on May 19, 2013.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Magdalene Orlow.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Alexander; his brother and sister-in-law, Dietrich and Maria Orlow of Bellevue, WA; niece and her husband, David and Ingrid; and their two children, Misha and Katja Orlow-Onstein. Manfred is also survived by long-time special friends, Gisela Melvin, Kettering, OH and Roland of Hamburg, Germany.

Manfred was a consummate volunteer who especially loved working in organizations that encouraged and supported the arts, music, and transportation arenas. Over the years Manfred held volunteer positions in many not-for-profit organizations. Some positions were: principal violist in the Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra, violist in the Aeolian String Quartet, board member/chair for Kettering Children's Choir, Administrative Volunteer for Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra/ Arts Alliance and member of Kettering Arts Council. He was the volunteer organist for worship services at Trinity Retirement Community for many years.

Manfred was a progressive Christian voice who has had impact from grass roots study groups and local church activities and has held leadership positions at the local, regional, and stated level of the United Church of Christ (UCC). Recently he has offered active support for the merger of two Kettering/Centerville area churches (Cross Creek Community Church and Oak Creek United Church of Christ). The merged congregation- Harmony Creek Church- has connections to both the United Church of Christ and the Alliance of Baptists. Manfred has actively supported the concepts and activities of organizations such as PFLAG, Equality Ohio, Planned Parenthood, and Centerville Diversity Council. For more than 50 years Manfred was an active member of and held leadership positions in St. John's United Church of Christ in Downtown Dayton. In the past several years he had expanded his church affiliation to include Cross Creek Community Church that became part of the newly merger.

A memorial remembrance and Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 10:30am at Harmony Creek Church, 5280 Bigger Road, Kettering, OH 45440, Rev. Dr. Michael Castle officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to Harmony Creek Church, Hospice of Dayton, or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are by the Newcomer Funeral Home (South Chapel), Kettering, OH.
