Malisa Susan Adams

July 27, 1992 — September 30, 2022

LOVE ENDURES
Malisa Adams unexpectedly passed away in her sleep September 30th, 2022 at the young age of 30 years old. She left behind her mother Velvet Adams; siblings: Carla Gentis and Michael Adams; and beloved niece & nephew Rowan and Declan; as well as her chosen family of close friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents.

In lieu of a formal viewing, we will have a Celebration of Life memorial on the 22nd of October from noon to 5pm at Carriage Hill MetroPark, the Cedar Lake shelter. All are welcome. We look forward to sharing all our Meesa memories and stories with everyone. Please come as you are or wear something bright and festive-Malisa wouldn't want us in dreary mourning clothes. Let's all look fabulous to celebrate her in style!

Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, Malisa grew up loving theater and arts of all types. Acting and singing brought great joy to her life, as well as many life-long friends. After graduating from Northridge High School, she was an avid volunteer at Boonshoft Museum of Discovery where she excelled at entertaining and guiding campers at their annual Harry Potter camp.

Music was a great source of joy and comfort to Malisa throughout her life. She loved spontaneously erupting into song, never worried of judgment or censor. A staunch supporter of local theater, she regularly attended plays and concerts in the area.

Malisa lived authentically and openly as a proud member of the LGBTQ2+ community and never failed to stand her ground when faced with adversity or closed mindedness. She offered support to many local and national causes to help young teens and adults with the pressures and fears associated with coming out and living as a LGTBQ2+ person.

In recent years she discovered a deep love for Dungeons and Dragons, which led her to a fantastic community of people who quickly became close friends. She found both creative and dramatic outlets in her weekly gatherings, as well as such joy being with her friends.

To lose someone so young is a true tragedy. To lose someone we all love so fiercely is heartbreaking. The hole in our souls will be forever present as we navigate through this world without her bright light next to us. But she would remind us that she is here with us always now, no matter the place or time.

I'll leave you with two quotes that embody Malisa and how she would want us to remember her:

"What is grief if not love enduring?"

Malisa loved that Marvel quote from the first moment she heard it. Since her passing, it hits home even harder. The pain we feel is a testament to our love for her. Remember our chatty friend and smile, even through the tears.

Secondly, the lyrics from "This is Me" by Keala Settle from the motion picture soundtrack The Greatest Showman:

"When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I'm gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am bruised, I am who I'm meant to be
This is me
Look out 'cause here I come
And I'm marchin' on to the beat I drum
I'm not scared to be seen, I make no apologies
This is me."

She loved this movie, and especially this song, for how it showed that we should never be afraid to be ourselves-scars and all. Be brave like Malisa. Be fierce in your individuality.
