It is with great sadness that the family of John E Hollins Jr announces his passing on June 30th 2022. John was born on December 14th 1942, as the oldest child of John and Rachel Hollins in Yazoo County, MS. John's formative years were spent in St. Louis, MO. He attended Vashon High School where he excelled in Football, Wrestling and Track & Field. He was nicknamed The Mighty One.
After high school he joined the United States Army where he completed basic training and into infantry airborne training. He was a Vietnam Veteran, drill sergeant and completed OCS. While stationed at Ft. Campbell, John met the love of his life Betty Jean and the two married in 1969. After 20 years in the Army, John retired as a Major in 1982 after 20 years of service including Army Commendations Medal and Combat Infantry honors.
John earned his Bachelor's Degree and two Masters in Psychology and Business Administration while in the military. He went on to a career as a licensed professional clinical counselor and was owner of Hollins Counseling Service where he served the community for over 30 years.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, John Hollins and Rachel Anderson; and brothers, Woodrow, Jethro, JC JR, Ralph, James and Larry.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Hollins; step-mother, Rose Hollins; siblings, Will Anderson, Matthew Anderson, Lou Emma Williams, Josephine McLemore, Sarah Penny and Clarence Hollins; 6 Children, Nyles Hollins, Catherine Towers, Yolanda Carter, Amoury Hollins (Alison), Kamori Hollins (Tameka) and John Hollins III (Holly); and 11 grandchildren, Miesha, Adrian, Michael, Ay'anna, Rachel, Aiden, Amari, Ava, Kamille, Lydia and Naomi.
John loved his family, community and the Lord. He enjoyed playing racquetball and pinochle. He coached and supported HHYFC for over 15 years. He was an active member of the church community which included Greater Galilee and the VA Chapel.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 14th, 2022 from 5-7 pm at the Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424. The service will be held on Friday, July 15th, 2022 at 9:30 am at the funeral home.
John will be laid to rest at Dayton National Cemetery.
Repast will take placed at Huber Heights Athletics, 5367 Fishburg Rd., Huber Heights, Ohio, 45424.
