Mabel B. Hook, age 101 of Xenia, Ohio went to be with the Lord on March 24, 2022. She was born July 20, 1920 in DeKalb County, Indiana daughter of the late Floyd and Francis Watson.
Mabel loved bowling and was the oldest active member of the Greater Dayton Women's Bowling Association bowling up to age 100. She served 12 years as the secretary and coach of the Beaver-Vu Youth Bowling Leagues. Mabel was very proud to have bowled on weekly leagues for approximately 70 years, starting in the basement of a church with pin-setters.
As an avid gardener she was a proud member of the Shawnee Lake Garden Club for over 16 years. Her flower beds and vegetables were second to none! She thoroughly enjoyed & looked forward to monthly lunches with the neighborhood ladies known as "The Breakfast Club".
Mabel was a member of the Dayton Avenue Baptist Church in Xenia and loved volunteering her time making hats, scarves, baby blankets and quilts with the church sewing group. She sewed hundreds of masks during the Covid Pandemic which were donated to various organizations. Mabel also loved doing her puzzle books and reading, reading, reading – she always said "You are never too old to Learn!"
In addition to her parents, Mabel was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Wilmer "Bud" Hook; daughters, Denise Hook and Darlene Greene; grandchildren, Brian Mann, Laura Hook and Gregory Hook.
Mabel is survived by her children, Charlotte Hook, Englewood, Gary (Lynne) Hook, Beavercreek, Monty (Karen) Hook, New Carlisle and Dana (Teresa) Hook, Franklin; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; son-in-law Jeff Greene, Kentucky; brother Paul Watson, Indiana; several nieces and nephews as well as many close friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 11-1pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432) with the service beginning at 1pm. Burial will be at Valley View Memorial Gardens in Xenia, Ohio.
In Lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions can be made in her honor to The Dayton Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.
