Lydia M. Combs, age 65, of Washington Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 27, 2019. Lydia was born on October 1, 1953 in Detroit, MI. She was the daughter to Gibbs and Beulah (Ray) Bailey.
During her working career, Lydia served in many capacities as she advanced her way through the banking community. She finally retired as an Assistant Vice President from SunTrust Bank after serving the banking profession for more than 40 years.
Lydia had an active church life being a member of the Fellowship of Believers Church and later the Sarasota Baptist Church. She was a talented singer and was a member of her church choirs. Lydia was always involved as director of musical productions for her churches. Her beautiful alto voice eventually led her to becoming a member of the touring group of the fabled Gaither Vocal Band as they toured through Europe.
However, her true love and passion in life was her family. Lydia's family was small, but close. Early in the years, they all lived in Detroit until they all decided to move as a family to Sarasota, FL to escape the Detroit winters. To remain close, the 3 families elected to purchase 3 homes on the same block in Sarasota. Later as her family started to grow, Lydia would spend countless hours spending time with her 2 grandsons, granddaughter and 7 "grand cousins." She would cook, play games, tell stories and take the kids on shopping trips in search for shoes and treasures.
Lydia leaves behind a living legacy of her loving son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Katie Combs of Dayton, OH; special cousins, Joe Mabe of Zepherhills, FL and Beth Mabe-Buchanan of Chicago, IL; grandsons, Reilly and Collin Combs; granddaughter, Kailah Combs; and 7 "grand cousins", Joey, Sean, Nicholas, Izzy, Lauren, Liam and Donovan; and many extended family members and close, dear friends.
Lydia elected not to have any services; however, a Celebration of Life Ceremony will be scheduled for a later date. The family suggests that memorials may be made in Lydia's honor to the Diabetes Foundation of Dayton, 2555 S. Dixie Dr., Ste 112, Dayton, OH 45409.
