Luther Baldwin Jr. age 94 passed away Friday December 18th at Legacy Village Assisted Living in Xenia. His wife of 71 years, Shirley (Justice) Baldwin was by his side. Luther was born November 15, 1926 in Johnson County, Kentucky to Luther Powell Baldwin and Mattie (McCarty) Baldwin. He proudly served his country as an Army Paratrooper during WWII. After the war Luther moved to Dayton, Ohio.He met Shirley on a blind date and they married a year later in 1949. Luther has resided in Xenia since 1956. Luther worked at Delco Products and NCR. He was a carpenter for Layne Homes. He retired from Cooper Energy Services of Springfield, Ohio as the shop carpenter. Luther was an accomplished woodworker and many of his friends and family benefited from his talents. Luther was a member of First Lutheran Church in Xenia and active with Shirley in NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees). After retirement,Luther and Shirley enjoyed traveling and going to the local flea markets and antique shops. He loved working in his workshop and remodeling their home on Galloway Street. Luther received several city beautification awards for their flowers and always enjoyed illuminating their home at Christmas.
In addition to his wife Shirley, Luther is survived by his children Byron Keith (Michelle) Baldwin, Celia (Gary) Grigsby and Jeffrey (Steven Roark) Baldwin. Luther was a proud grandfather and great grandfather. He loved their visits and holiday celebrations.
The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff at Legacy Village and the care he received from Ohio's Hospice of Dayton. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial Contributions can be made in his name to Ohio's Hospice of Dayton.
