Lucille Howard

September 1, 1934 — January 8, 2025

Lucille Howard, a beacon of love and warmth, was born on September 1, 1934, and departed this world on January 8, 2025. Throughout her remarkable life, she epitomized generosity and compassion, endlessly serving as a nurturing presence to all who had the privilege to know her. Lucy's purpose on earth was clear: to take care of her family and to help children, especially during her time at Mad River Township Schools. She was very humbled by these experiences and cherished each moment spent enriching the lives of the young.

Lucy was blessed with a loving family, anchored by her devoted husband, Thomas Howard. Together, they created a tight-knit familial bond that was felt by all. Her children—Cheryl (Steve) Colegate, Chris Howard, and Jeff (Dawn) Howard—were the lights of her life, and she took immense pride in watching them grow and flourish. The joy she found in her grandchildren—Jason Davis, Jennifer (Greg) Eyink, Brian (Jennifer) Keaton, and Carissa (Tim) Carter—was immeasurable, with each of their accomplishments bringing a sparkle to her eyes. Her family's love extended even further with the blessing of great-grandchildren: Jadon, Ava & Kane Davis, Khloe, Leyton & Luka Eyink, Abby, Christopher, Benny & Cole Keaton, and Auna, Keegan & Elle Carter. Each of these young souls was a source of joy and a testament to her life’s work and dedication to family.

She was often described as full of love, welcoming, and a friend to all. Lucy had an extraordinary ability to see the good in others and made everyone feel special, cherished, and accepted. Her heart was expansive, and her home was always a place of hospitality, where friends and family gathered and memories were made.

In addition to the love she fostered within her family, Lucy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid bird lover, adorning her garden with bird baths and feeders, spending serene moments watching her feathered friends delight in her offerings.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Bertha Litteral; her daughter-in-law, Donna Howard, along with her beloved siblings: Ethel Mae, Leila, Geneva, Wendell, Billy Joe, Ray, and Marcum Litteral. While her absence will surely be felt deeply, a legacy of love, kindness, and commitment to family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A visitation in honor of Lucy will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 12:00pm to 1:00pm, followed by a funeral service at 1:00pm, both at Newcomer North Chapel, located at 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Royal Oak Memorial Gardens.

Farewell, dear Lucy. Your love will remain etched forever in the hearts of your family and friends, guiding and inspiring them in the days ahead.
