Louise Maire (Hayes) Hicks, Budy, Grannie , a precious, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend peacefully left this world to be with Jesus on December 12, 2024, in Dayton, Ohio, 4 days shy of her 92nd birthday; born on December 16, 1932, in Williamsburg, Whitley County, Kentucky.
Louise made her profession of faith at 9 years old and was baptized at the First Baptist Williamsburg. She graduated from LaFollette High School a full year early in 1949. While not realizing her dream of graduating from college she did successfully achieve the Dean's list taking classes both at Sinclair Community College and at the University of Dayton while caring for her husband and children.
Louise married Oscar E Hicks Sr. on June 12, 1950 in Rossville, Walker County, Georgia. Louise lost Oscar, the love of her life, on September 22, 1981.
She was proceeded in death by her father Basil Arthur Hayes and her mother Mollie Ellen (Steely) Hayes. Sisters, Margaret, Geraldine, Ruth, and Clara. Brothers Basil , Howard, George, Tommy, and Jerry. Louise lost her grandson Oscar E Hicks III on October 5th 2019.
She is survived by brothers Carl and John and sisters Beverly, Nancy Sue and Mary.
She will be sorely missed by daughter Mollie B.A. Buckholtz and her Husband Daniel, sons Oscar E. Hicks II and his wife Jenice, David D. Hicks and his wife Martina, Basil Thomas Hicks and his wife Alicia, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Louise retired from DESC. She volunteered for the Ombudsman office as a Medicare/Medicaid consultant then as a nursing home patient advocate. She was a strong advocate for her community and a participant in local and state political and civil issues even chosen as citizen of the year for the city of Moraine. Budy loves God, loved her family, and her country. She never stopped working to make each of these things better, stronger, and more resilient. She strengthened every church she attended teaching, encouraging, singing in the church choir and singing favorite songs for the congregation. She always stayed 100 percent in the corner of her family, and always tried to put her best foot forward to support her chosen city of Moraine.
Mom’s faith was the most important thing to her. The one thing she always wanted to share with anyone is the only thing you need to do is believe in the death and resurrection of Christ for you as well as the world to be saved. Plus nothing.
John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life"
2 Corinthians 5:8
“We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord."
