Lorraine Fortner passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on January 2, 2024.
Lorraine was born in Terre Haute Indiana. She graduated from Indiana State University, then from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law School at the College of William and Mary in Virginia.
She worked at LexisNexis for over 40 years. She was active in several community organizations and activities, including the City Folk Dance group, volunteering at performances and otherwise supporting the arts, among others. She was also very active with her temple. She enjoyed domestic (especially state or national parks) and international (including numerous counties and most continents) travels, often choosing the less traveled or more unusual places.
She is survived by one brother, Walter (Patricia), one sister, Leslie, one sister-in-law, Lorinda, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents (Robert and Vera) and one brother (Jim).
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to: Temple Beth Or; The Dayton Foundation (the Lorraine D. Fortner Fund); Dayton Live; local animal rescues (SICSA, The Tenth Life, Second Chance Rescue, or others); or a charity of your choosing.
Her family thanks those who offered their friendship and support to Lorraine.
Her wish for us all was "to leave the world-or at least your corner of it-better than if you had not been here". We believe she did.
A funeral service, followed by a celebration of life gathering, for Lorraine will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024, beginning at 10:30am, at Temple Beth Or, 5275 Marshall Rd. Dayton
