Lois V. Mathews

Lois V. Mathews (78) who was simply called Sis by her close family was born June 20, 1946. She passed away Friday, December 13, 2024 in her home in Riverside, Ohio. Sis was preceded in death by her first husband, Mose Cannon; second husband, Jesse Mathews; father, Roy McCarter; mother, Inez McCarter and her aunt which she cared for later in life, Frances Craig.

Sis is survived by her brothers: Roy McCarter, Jr., David McCarter and Paul McCarter; several nieces and nephews; life long friend and maid of honor, Terisa Williams; her cousin who was there to support her, Rev. Lewis McCarter; and numerous close friends she considered to be family. 

Sis loved and had many dogs through the years, including her beloved Noel and Libby who passed away one week prior to her. She had many years working at local hospitals, including Saint Elizabeth and Good Samaritan. She will be truly missed by several people in Dayton and in Wellston, Ohio, where she was born and raised. 

Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 pm on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, where the funeral service will begin at 6:00 pm. A graveside service will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Woodson Cemetery, Wellston, Ohio.
