SMITH, Lloyd Ephraim, age 88 of Beavercreek, Ohio, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 11, 2011 after a brief illness. Lloyd was born on November 10, 1923 in Massillon, OH to Ephraim and Estella Smith.
He was one of 13 children. Lloyd graduated from Chester High School in Wooster, OH. He enlisted in the US Army in 1941 at the age of 17. He fought in an anti-tank platoon with the Third Armored Infantry Regiment in France and Germany during WWII and received a Purple Heart for wounds received in action. Lloyd returned home in 1945 and married Marjorie R. Wyatt on January 17, 1948. Lloyd attended the University of Dayton to study engineering and worked for NCR for 40 years retiring in 1986. He was a long time resident of Beavercreek.
Lloyd is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marjorie , his 5 children Mark (Pam) of Jamestown, OH, Tom (Carol) of Cincinnati, OH, Jane (Mark) McCoy of Dayton, OH, John "Brad" (friend Angie Grieshop) of Cincinnati, OH and Susan (John) Beggs of Dublin, OH. 8 Grandchildren, Ashley McMann, Meighan Ciccone, Hilary Schnieders, Hannah Smith, Olivia Smith, Jackson Beggs, Cooper Beggs and Griffin Beggs. 4 great grandchildren. Also survived by brother Fred Smith of Smithville, OH and sister, Lucy Turgeon of Modesto, CA, daughter-in-law Joyce Smith, several step grandchildren and many other family members and lots of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 siblings.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 11:00 am at Newcomer Funeral Home – Beavercreek, 3380 Dayton-Xenia RD. Interment to follow at Valley View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 14, 2011 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
