Linda Combs arrived at the Pearly Gates on the morning of January 24, 2021 and immediately began planting flowers to spruce up the gates for our welcome someday. Linda was born in Gravel Switch, Kentucky on March 30, 1943 and a piece of her heart has always been in those hills. She made many treks back to the area for family reunions and loved being reunited with all of her extended family.
Linda graduated high school at the age of 15. She moved to the Dayton area in 1958, was married to Tom Combs, and had her daughter, Tina Stansell, in 1961. After their divorce, Linda was a single mom who put all of her love and strength into providing the best for her daughter, Tina. She was a hard worker (and very smart as proven by her high school graduation date) and continued to learn new skills through training certificate programs related to her work. She retired from Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and is still remembered fondly by many of her coworkers.
John Ward entered her life in the early 80's, and they were together 35 years before his passing in 2018. To say that they were the love of each other's life is putting it mildly. There was no John or Linda, it was John and Linda. They had many happy times together - golfing, fishing, gambling, playing cards, and just having general fun with friends and family. Linda's backyard was a garden haven to behold, and you could always count on relaxing there with a drink and a bite to eat in their gazebo. They were two of the most proud grandparents that you would ever meet and doted on their cats like they were their children also.
In addition to John, Linda was preceded in death by her father, Dan Minor; mother, Pina Bartle; stepdad, Edward Bartle; brothers, Robert Minor, Gary Minor, and Robert C. Minor; and stepbrother, Thomas Corcoran.
She is survived by her daughter, Tina Stansell (Tim); brothers, Daniel Minor and Chris Burnside; sisters, Carolyn Carmicle (Larry) and Patricia Sanders (Rob); granddaughter, Sonni Moore; great grandchildren, Jordyn Purkeypile, Timothy Moore, Kloe Moore, Willow Lilley, and Dylan Lilley; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to https://www.hospiceofdayton.org/donations/ or your favorite charity.
In Linda's memory, find a seat at the nickel slots, toast her with your favorite beverage, and enjoy life as much as she did.
