Lily Faye Grubbs

June 16, 1951 — August 2, 2021

Lily Faye Grubbs, age 70 of Clayton, went on to see Jesus on August 2, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Black Star, Kentucky to the late Leeman Gay & Mary Kinder. In addition to her parents, Lily was preceded in death by Leeman Kinder, Herman Kinder, and Rebecca Miller.

She will be remembered by her soulmate, best friend, & husband of 52 years, Trellis Grubbs; children: Mary Flory, Bonita Hall, Trellis Grubbs Jr. & wife Melissa Grubbs, Eugene Grubbs; sister Anna Ward; grandchildren: Bethany Grubbs, Daniell Grubbs, Kyle Hall, Jessica Hall, Trellis Grubbs III; great grand children: Liberty Bell, Rayna, Lincoln, Grayson, Finley, Elijah, and many nieces, nephews and family and friends.

As a coal miner's daughter, she met the love of her life at just 13 years old. She became a wife and a mom of 2 boys and 2 girls and would eventually end up being a "mother-figure" to hundreds.

News of her passing brought many to the "little red brick house on the corner" in Clayton where she spent the last 45 years of her life. So many referred to her saying "She was like a second mom…If you stayed the night, you knew that you were gettin' fried chicken, soup beans and cornbread, not to mention the biggest country breakfast you've ever seen." One of the perks of a true southern woman.

She attended Vandalia Christian Tabernacle since 1995. This church would soon become the cornerstone of her life. There she became a foot soldier of God leading her "hug ministry," being a fierce prayer warrior, working on the cleaning crew, making prayer cloths, and working on the bereavement committee. She considered these things as a privilege. To be able to work with her sisters in Christ was something she held so dear to her heart. She left this word with her eyes on Jesus, holding the hand of the love of her life.

A visitation will be held from 11:00am to 12:00pm on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Redemption Christian Tabernacle, 11780 N Dixie Drive, where a funeral service will start at 12:00pm. A burial will follow at Clayton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lily's memory can be made to Redemption Christian Tabernacle where they will make a donation to the Children's ministry in her honor.
