Lewis (Lew) Surber age 83, passed away June 28, 2021 at his home in Beavercreek, OH. He was born June 13, 1938 to Clint and Florence Surber of La Junta, Colorado. Lew worked as an aerospace engineer at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH where he retired after 37 years. He then did substitute teaching at Beavercreek High school for a year and a half. He said, "That was too hard, I'm going back to engineering." So he worked for UTC as a contractor in the same area of the base where he worked his whole career. He retired completely in 2019.
He was a member of the Xenia Church of Christ and a former member of Belmont Church of Christ where he taught many Bible classes and led many singing workshops.
He was preceded in death by his brother Lee Surber. Lew is survived by his wife of 61 years Meg Grafton Surber, two daughters: Shelly (Monty) Liles; Lisa Strawser; five grandchildren: Evan, Aubrey (Nolan, Kyrin) Caden, Nathan and Nicholas (Rebecca) and great-grandchild:Hardin.
Lew had many accomplishments through his 83 years. When he was in Jr. High in La Junta, Colorado, he joined the Koshare Indian Dancing Boy Scout Troop where he earned his Eagle Scout Badge. He also played football and was on the wrestling team. Then he went on to Colorado University in Boulder, Colorado, where he earned a bachelor degree in Aerospace Engineering. He then married Meg and accepted a job at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. Later he earned a Masters degree in Family Counseling at Wright State University which enabled him to help and counsel numerous people thru the years.
