Lewis Gene Cyphers
Gene Cyphers, 94, of Xenia, peacefully went to be with the Lord on June 12, 2018. He was born to the late John and Gertrude (Snyder) Cyphers on August 15, 1923, in Beavercreek, Ohio. Gene was a decorated WWII veteran having served under General Patton as an infantryman in the U.S. Army from February 2, 1942 to October 23, 1945. He received the Purple Heart; the Bronze Star for Meritorious Achievement and Courage in Ground Combat; the Good Conduct Medal; the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal; and the WWII Victory Medal, among other commendations. As part of Patton's three day march and the invasion on D-Day, Gene was truly one of the last of the "Greatest Generation."
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, former spouse Jane Ann Cyphers, his beloved son Robert Cyphers, step-son Ronald Walker, and his beloved partner of 40 years, Shirley Walker. He is survived by his son John (Cathy) Cyphers, step-son Terry Walker, step-daughters Penny (Joe) Jack, Pamela (Hank) Caudill, Paula McClanahan and numerous nieces, nephews, grand children, and great grand children.
Gene was a kind, generous, and loving man. He was a blessing to everyone and will be fondly remembered and missed by all.
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Newcomer Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel starting at Noon followed by a brief memorial service. Inurnment at Dayton National Cemetery will immediately follow the memorial service.
