Leroy Smith

LeRoy Smith, age 82 of Dayton, passed away September 28, 2016. He was born July 4, 1934 in Rella, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents: Richard Smith, Ruby Smith and Agnes Smith; son, Gary Smith; and sister, Geraldine.

LeRoy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen Smith; children: Larry Smith, Teresa Lasher and Richard Smith; grandchildren: Jennifer Smith, Kyle Lasher and Jaymi Smith; great-grandchildren: Gage, Gabriella and Austin; brother, William Smith; and many other relatives and friends.

LeRoy was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps., Korean War, where he earned the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Roofer's Local # 75 and the V.F.W. # 2800 and # 8312, where he was a member of the Honor Guard.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road, where the family will receive friends from 1-3 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in LeRoy's memory to the Dayton V.A. Medical Center, Hospice Facility. LeRoy's family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses at the VA Medical Center and A & D Health Services, especially nurse, Shari and aide Dustin for all of their love and care during LeRoy's illness.
