Leonard Charles Solinger, age 80 of Dayton, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born June 5, 1937 in Afton, Iowa son of the late Everett M. and Opal M. Solinger.
In addition to his parents, Leonard is preceded in death by his son, Brett Solinger and siblings, Elayne Carlson, Ardin Solinger and Ardith Burns.
Leonard is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda M. Solinger daughters, Collette N. (Blake) Jordan, Cortney M. (Jeremy) Loyd, Bobbie L. Monce, Lynne Ledbetter and Lesley Hoffarth; sister, Janeen (Larry) Larimer; grandchildren, Catia, Evan and Carter; two great grandchildren; a best buddy, Hayden and many other family and friends.
Leonard was a 1955 graduate of Afton High School. He studied pre-law at Creston Junior College before serving in the US Army as a Private from 1959 - 1962. Leonard was also a former member of Bethel Christian Assembly of God Church.
Leonard enjoyed building and woodworking in his spare time. He also cared for vegetable and flower gardens over the years. Leonard was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and will always be remembered for his acts of service and patriotism.
Family will receive guests from 5:00-6:00 pm Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Newcomer Funeral Home, Kettering. A memorial service will immediately follow at 6:00 pm also at the funeral home on Thursday with military honors. Greenlawn Cemetery, IA will serve as Leonard's final resting place. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's preferred charitable veterans' organization in Leonard's memory.
