Obituary for Leola Sturgell
Leola Marcum Sturgell peacefully went to be with the Lord on February 15, 2009 from the Melech Lifepath Hospice House in Tampa, Fl. She and her husband had been spending the winter with their daughter in Tampa. She was 76 years old. She was born Oct. 17, 1932 in Grey Eagle, West Virginia, to Elmer and Maude Marcum. Leola had been a resident of Dayton, Ohio for 60 years. Throughout her life her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren and serving her Lord. She loved pets and a collie was part of the Sturgell family for over 4 decades. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Marcum and Maude Evans Marcum. Also preceding her in death were one brother, Robert Marcum of Kermit, West Virginia and two sisters, Dorothy Marcum Cox of Spencer, West Virginia and Lottie Joe Marcum Brewer of Kermit, West Virginia. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Archie Clifford Sturgell; sons, Steven Sturgell and wife Shirley of Augusta, Ga; Roger Sturgell and wife Cynthia of Austin, Texas; Kevin Sturgell of Dayton, Ohio; and one daughter, Sharon Kaye Sturgell Banks and husband Dean of Tampa, Florida. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Todd Sturgell and wife April of Augusta, Ga; Benjamin Sturgell and wife Summer of Nashville, Tn; Jamison and Crista Banks of Tampa, Fl; Kelly Sturgell Plant and husband Wes of Austin, Tx; Kyle Sturgell of Dallas, Tx; and four great grandchildren, Ashton, Grayson, Jewel, and Opal. She is also survived by two brothers, Hobert Marcum of Kermit, West Virginia, Elmer(Curley) Marcum and wife Wanda of Columbus, Oh, and one sister, Jeanie Marcum Seagraves and husband Carl of Columbus, Oh, and lots of nieces and nephews. Friends and family may visit at the Newcomer Funeral Home located at 4104 Needmore Rd on Thursday, Feb. 19, from 6:00 to 8:00p.m. A celebration of her life will be held at the Evangel Church of God located at 132 N. Smithville Rd. on Friday, Feb. 20, at 11:00am. with Rev. David Renfro officiating. The interment will take place at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Tipp City, Oh. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and a faithful member of the Church of God. Earlier in her life she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She will be dearly missed by her friends and family. "I fought a good fight, I finished my course, I kept the faith, henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness."2 Tim .4:7.
