LeRoy Dee Baxter, age 74, of Beavercreek, passed away on Saturday November 21, 2020. He was born in Kansas City, Kansas on April 8th,1946 the son of the late Jean and Margaret Baxter.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jean Baxter and Margaret (Real) Baxter.
LeRoy was his first name but went by his middle name Dee his entire life.
Dee is survived by his beloved wife Sharon Lynn Baxter, children; Stephen Baxter, Mark Baxter, their wives Tammy Baxter (Stephen), Nicole Baxter (Mark); Grandchildren, Gracelynne (Stephen & Tammy), Brycon (Stephen & Tammy); Owen (Mark & Nicole) and Gabriel (Mark & Nikki). His also survived by his sister Karen Shute, bother in law Hal Shute, brother in law Ron Bailey, nephew Cory Shute, and niece Kellie Nass.
Dee received a diving scholarship to Pittsburg State University. He graduated in January 1969 with a BS in Business Administration. In 1982 he graduated from Webster University with a Master's degree in Personal Management.
Dee Baxter served his country proudly in the United States Air Force from 1969-1992. He originally enlisted after college then was subsequently selected for OTS and Pilot Training. He attended pilot training at Sheppard AFB. His follow-on assignment was flying WC-135's out of Yakota, Japan. He then transitioned to flying the EC-47 in Vietnam. During his time in Vietnam he earned the Air Force's Distinguished Flying Cross. Upon completion he was given his choice of aircraft and selected the C-5. He was sent to Altus AFB for initial training followed by operational flying at Travis AFB. He then returned to Altus AFB as a C-5 instructor. In 1983 he was sent to Wright-Patterson AFB to serve on the C-5B program, then the C-17 and retired as the MAC Detachment 4 Commander. After Military retirement he then become a government contractor until his retirement in 2011.
Dee enjoyed time with his family and friends doing things he enjoyed. Throughout his life he enjoyed many activities. He was an avid skier, enjoyed whitewater rafting and hunting. He loved to fish and took trips with family and friends to many places, including; Arkansas, Canada, and local lakes in Ohio. Dee also was a golf fanatic, he played in many leagues and tournaments. He also stayed current flying; this was one of his passions he thoroughly enjoyed. Over the years Dee & Sharon went on cruises, traveled to Florida, traveled with and to see friends around the country.
He enjoyed every minute he got to spend with his four grandchildren, making them each feel special in his one way. He was an active member with St. Andrew United Methodist Church since 1984. Dee was also active with many different organizations in the Dayton, Ohio area; Lions Club, VFW, QB's.
Services for Dee will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
