Lawrence W. Sams

Lawrence W. Sams "Larry", age 70, of Dayton, passed away on March 19, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 5, 1953 to the late Harold K. and Frances L. (Radcliff) Sams. Larry grew up in a military family and they lived in many different cities across the country. He went on to also serve in the US Air Force. Larry had a longtime career as an Optician and worked the majority of his career at Sears Optical. He took much pride and had much patience in assisting clients feel good about wearing glasses while looking their best, and often times his clients became friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Harold Sams. He is survived by his beloved family: daughters, Mandy Sams, Angie (Joe) Young, and Julie (Ben) Dulin; grandchildren, Dedrick Sams, Leo Sams, Crystal Dulin, Marlee Larsen, Oliver Dulin, Nora Dulin; and his great-granddaughters, Nyla and Raelynn. Larry is also survived by his sister Pat Reeder; dear friends, Rose and Kathy; other loved ones and friends, along with his golf buddies and his faithful dog "Cooper".

Larry loved spending time outdoors camping and canoeing with his family as well as hiking especially at Lake Hope, Hocking Hills, and Old Man's Cave. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing board games with his family. Larry was known as the family "Fixer" and could fix anything from dry wall to plumbing and electric. He was a gifted artist who loved to draw and was constantly bettering his talents. Music was a true enjoyment for Larry and he was open to most types of music from old to new.

A big kid at heart, Larry was silly and a practical joker. He was a dad to anyone who needed a dad. Larry will also be remembered for his laid back and generous nature. He was a forgiving person, very considerate of others and had an impact on those around him.
He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, who will be deeply missed and held close in his loved ones hearts.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 23 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Newcomer Kettering Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd. Funeral service, Friday, 10:30 am at the funeral home. Larry will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.
