Lauly Thacker, age 95 of Bellbrook, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2020. He was born on February 18, 1925 in Pruden, TN to the late R.W. and Pearl (Fletcher) Thacker. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Ruby (King) Thacker, his sisters, Georgia Fuson, Jessie Lee Partin and Chesley Mason; brother, Ray Thacker.
He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Jan (Donnie) Hamilton, Norman (Valerie) Thacker and Jim (Georgia) Thacker; grandchildren, Sarah (Evan) Carver and Jon (Emily) Thacker; great-grandchildren, Mia "Rue" Carver, Isla "Lil Sarah" Carver, Lydia "Curly" Thacker and Eden "Ruby" Thacker.
Lauly proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946. He was a member of the 158th Combat Engineers in the European Theatre. He received 5 Bronze Service Stars. He saw action in Normandy (D-Day), Northern France, Ardennes (The Battle of the Bulge), Rhineland and Central Europe.
He returned home and married Ruby King in 1955 and moved to Dayton, OH. While raising his family he was employed by Chrysler Air Temp for 31 years. After retiring he and Ruby enjoyed antiquing. They loved going to antique shops and flea markets. They made many friendships setting up and selling at flea markets over the years.
Lauly loved his family more than anything. Nothing made him happier than when his children and grandchildren would come over and visit. Over the past 4 1/2 years, Lauly enjoyed being a great-grandpa to his four little great-granddaughters.
His family will miss him so much.
Family will receive guests from 5-7 PM on Friday, February 28, 2020 at Newcomer Centerville Chapel (820 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd., Dayton, OH 45459). A funeral service will begin at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 29 at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Woodland Cemetery, Dayton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association (1319 W. Dorothy Lane, Kettering, OH 45409) or Crossroads Hospice (8069 Washington Village Dr., Dayton, OH 45458) in Lauly's memory.
