Larry John "Pappy" Pruitt, age 71, passed away on July 21, 2021. He was born in Ohio on December 28, 1949 to Andrew and Mazelle (Elmore) Pruitt.
Larry met the love of his life, Janice Pruitt, in middle school. They married on December 21, 1968. Larry is survived by his wife Jan; daughters Angela (Kevin Jennings) Burton and Michelle (Gregory) Sears; one son, Brian Pruitt; grandchildren Nicholas (Taylor) Burton; Garrett Burton, Taytem Burton, Gregory Rockey, Andrea Rockey, Emily Rockey, and Alec Sears. He was a proud great grandfather to one great granddaughter, Scarlett Burton.
Larry loved to spend time with his family. He was a history buff and an avid reader. He was a huge Star Wars fan, and shared this love with his kids and grandkids. Larry enjoyed working in his wood shop and also playing guitars. He often made gifts like picnic tables, lanterns, bird houses, tables, chairs, and shelves for his loved ones. He was an artist who loved to paint. He recently found a passion for painting many beautiful galaxy scenes. His kids and grandkids will treasure these gifts that he made forever. Larry often told "Dad jokes" and laughed at them himself as he told them. He often helped us find humor in any situation. He loved classic cars, especially his '55 Chevy, going to cruise-ins, and collecting hot wheels. He took great pride in his yard and flowerbeds and he deeply dreaded winter.
During cold months he looked forward to planting in his many flower beds with his wife, a project that he called "Flower Power". He loved sitting on his back porch with his wife. They spent many days outside watching and feeding chipmunks, birds and squirrels while talking and drinking hot tea or coffee. He loved to nap in his favorite chair with one of his three cats, especially his favorite cat, Elvis. Larry will be loved and deeply missed by his family forever. Larry was a cancer survivor.
Per Larry's request, no services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer society. Arrangements entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home, Dayton.
