Kitty Fairchild

May 12, 1955 — March 9, 2023

Kitty Lorraine (Messer) Fairchild unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 9th, 2023. She was born May 12th, 1955 to the late Rev. Carl and Lorraine (McCormick) Messer in Madison W.V.

Kitty was the youngest of 7 children. A role she was very proud of. As the youngest she was not only spoiled by her parents but also by her older siblings who affectionately called her Kitten. Kitty moved with her family to Ohio when she was 12 years old but she always considered W.V. her home. Kitty enjoyed singing with her family and playing the piano. She was a member of the Valley St Free United Baptist Church where she often played the piano. While she only has two daughters of her own she was blessed to have 5 grandsons and 2 granddaughters who were the lights of her life. It did not matter if they wanted to bake or build a fort she was always willing to help. She loved the summers when she got to babysit and eventually started volunteering at their school both in the library and their classrooms. Of all the roles she had in her life daughter, wife, sister, mother being a Mamaw Honey to the Smith 7 was her favorite. Her presence will be missed more than words can tell.

Kitty is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of nearly 34 years, Dwaine Leo Fairchild on Nov 17th, 2022. Her sister Gladys Fay (Duty), brothers Emil Kenneth, Carl Ophard II, Melvin Kermit, Joseph Charles and James Curtis.

She is survived by her daughters Carla (Raymond) Smith and Tara (Buck) Smith both of Fairborn. Grandchildren Elias, Titus (Emma), Caleb, Silas, Myleigh, Gabriel, and Amelia. Sister-in-law Barbara Messer, uncle Jim Bob McCormick, her friend Deb Doolin whom she affectionately called Critter as well as many nieces and nephews, special friends and church family.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 16th, 2023 from 6-8pm at the Valley Street Free United Baptist Church, 4355 Valley Street, Dayton, OH 45424. Family and friends are welcome to share stories from 8-9pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 17th, 2023 at 12pm officiated by Pastor Buck Smith.

Kitty will be laid to rest at Byron Cemetery, Fairborn, Ohio.
