Bauman, Kirby L., age 70, of Riverside, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2008 at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born June 27, 1938 in Dayton, OH, the son of Robert A. & Georgia E. (Wiggins) Bauman. Kirby was a graduate of Stivers High School Class of 1956 and served in the US Army in the 82nd Airborne. He was a member of the American Legion Post 526 in Fairborn, Ohio. He was also a member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Society of the War of 1812, the Sons of the Union Veterans, the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, the First Families of Ohio, the First Families of Van Wert, Ohio, and the Orphan Brigade Kinfolk. Kirby was a geneologist and an avid hunter, fisherman, collector, and traveller. He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Jane Ann (Franklin) Wiggins and George T. Wiggins; uncle, Henry "Bud" Spurrier; granddaughter, Courtney Michelle Henderson; brother, Robert Bauman, Jr.; and his mother-in-law, Rita R. (Fink) Pittl. Survivors include his first wife and mother of his children, Carolyn (Pittl) Bauman; children, Kurt Bauman of Greenville, OH, Kristopher Bauman of Union, OH, Dirk Bauman of San Diego, CA, Richard (Jodie) Bauman of Moraine, Erik (Robin) Bauman of Centerville, IN, Dale Bauman of Union, OH, Viktoria (Bauman) & Scott Peck of Troy, OH; second wife, Carolyn Lewis; step-children, Scott Lewis of West Portsmouth, OH, Cindy (Eddie) Manning of Kentucky, & Keith (Carla) Lewis of West Milton, OH; 16 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brothers, Guy R. (Kristie) Grassan and Pete E. Grassan, and sister, Lenora K. Holland, all of Belmont, OH; aunt, Hazel J. Nock of Kettering, OH; cousins, Jesse L. "Butch" (Sandy) Mercer of Tennessee, Alicia J. (Tom) Pummill of Kettering, OH; friends of 55 years, Bill Elliott, David Tincher, & Claude Mercer; longtime friend, Dale Waymire; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Sally Ann. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, OH, with Kevin Guigou officiating. Interment will follow at Dayton National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled Veterans.
