Kerry Nelson, age 67, of Springfield, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 29, 2018. Kerry was born in Marion, Indiana on May 17, 1950 to the late Lacy & Inez Nelson. He was also preceded in death by his grandchildren, Ethan Nelson & Baby Schipper.
Kerry proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Door Gunner on a Chinook helicopter with the 1st Cav. during Vietnam.
Kerry served 30 plus years on church bus routes. In 1995, Kerry was ordained at Victory Baptist Church, Springfield, OH. He was involved in the jail ministry since 2001 and wrote letters of encouragement to the inmates. He was also a Chaplain at the ADC in Xenia, OH for 12 years. Kerry wrote poems of encouragement and mailed them to those that needed it most. He also wrote a devotional called "The Turtle Speaks". His heart's desire was to always be a blessing and a help to others. Kerry loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren.
Kerry is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Pam Nelson; children, Kerry Joe (Mella) Nelson and April (Ryan) Schipper; grandchildren, David Nelson, Breanna Nelson, Mya Nelson, Jocelyn Schipper and Amelia Schipper; siblings, Larry (Marge) Nelson, Kathy (Joe) Moore, Jerry (JoEllen) Nelson and Linda Nelson and many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 10:30am – 12:30pm at Newcomer South Kettering Chapel (3940 Kettering Blvd, Kettering, OH 45439). The service will follow at 12:30pm. Kerry will be laid to rest at Dayton National Cemetery at 2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kerry's memory to the VA Hospice Fund (VA Medical Center, 4100 West Third Street, Dayton, Ohio 45428-9907).
