SMITH, Kenneth Royce
A life-long resident of Dayton, OH passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 26, 2015 at the age of 79.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Cecilia Smith (nee Garhammer); his three children, Rick G Smith, Peggy S. Bergstedt, and Michael R. (Dee) Smith; granddaughter, Rebecca (Brian) Overholser; great-grandchildren, Aidan and Ava Overholser; brothers, Charlie (Judy) and Tom (Rita) Smith; and brother-in-law, Virgil Thompson.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Nettie Lee Glenn (Smith), step-father, James B. Smith; and sister, Melva Thompson.
Kenneth was born on January 17, 1936 in McKee, KY. He graduated from Northmont High School in Dayton. He served in the United States Army as a medic. He and Cecilia just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. He was a member of the Painters Union (Local 249) and spent his career in the building profession.
Kenneth enjoyed raising chickens, fishing, woodworking, gardening/yard work, and loved to eat. Other than his meat and potatoes he especially loved watermelon and chocolate covered cherries.
A memorial gathering will take place Friday, August 28, 2015 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Rd.
