Kenneth L. Layne

Kenneth L. Layne, age 86 of Springfield, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Homestead Healthcare Center, formerly Essex. He was born March 25, 1932 in Carter County, Kentucky to the late Estill and Sadie Layne.

In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Ruby G. Layne, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Kenneth is survived by his children, Jim (Hazel) Willard, Roger (Chris) Willard, Mike (Cheryl) Willard, Sue Chitwood, Faye (Tim) Cayten, Allen (Betty Sue) Layne and Dottie (Joe) Burks; 27 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; siblings, Lorraine Layne, Barbara Bair, Lois Layne, Frank Layne, Tony (Bonnie) Layne, Richard (Judy) Layne and Kathy (Whorley) Charles; special friends, Michelle Parsons, Sarah Lee and Shanita Watts as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

Kenneth was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18 retiring in 1994 after 40 plus years of service. In his spare time, Kenneth enjoyed hunting, fishing, swap meets, professional wrestling and tradin'. He had a great appreciation for family, the outdoors and the simple life. Kenneth will always be remembered as generous, witty, strong and "the world's greatest Dad". A special thanks is extended from the family to Dr. Richard Darr and the care team at Essex for their dedicated and compassionate care.

Family will receive guests from 5:00-8:00 pm Friday, February 1, 2019 and 9:00-10:00 am Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Life Ministry, Troy. A funeral service will follow on Saturday at 10:00 am also at the church and officiated by Pastor Johnathan Workman. Procession to Cedar Hill Cemetery, Trotwood for burial will conclude services for Kenneth.
