Kenneth Barton Smith Jr.

SMITH, Kenneth B. Jr., age 61, of Dayton, passed away Friday, March 28, 2008. He was born April 7, 1946 in Newark OH. Kenneth was preceded in death by his father Kenneth B. Smith Sr., father-in-law Bob Woods, survived by mother Justine Grace Smith; and mother-in-law Carol Woods. Kenneth is survived by his loving wife and best friend Marcia of 31 years; son and caregiver Kevin B. Smith; Barb Blankenbeckler more of a sister than a sister-in-law; sister-in-laws Roberta Brooks (Ray), Linda Heasley (John), brothers Dennis (Beth), Bruce (Ellen), sister Angela Loveless (John) and many special nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. To our extended family Al and Patty Haley, Joe and Connie Nagy, Dave and Julie Harshman, a special thank you for taking us in over the years, as more than friends, but as part of your family. Ken was a veteran of 8 years in the United States Air Force 5th Bomb wing Travis Air Force Base California, served 15 months AFRTS Radio Trabzon, Turkey, 4 years AFTV Berlin, Germany. He worked 3 years at Woolworths in Piqua, 9 years at Freimark Thurston credit union insurance services, and 21 years at WPAFB-Civil Engineering, Base Supply, 88th Communications Group. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, a Former Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 236, a very proud band parent of the Fairmont Marching Firebirds (1994-1998), member of Super B Square Dancing Club, a member of Alpha Masonic Lodge # 729, past patron of Belmont Eastern Star 555, and a proud member of the Happy Travelers. Special thanks to Dr. Stewart Merl and Dr. David Denka and their staffs for all they did and all they tried to do. Also thanks to the staff at Hospice of Dayton. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 from 4-8pm at Newcomer Funeral Home Beavercreek Chapel. The funeral service will be Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 1:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Park Cemetery.
