Kay Mukumoto-Pavlicek, a vibrant soul who graced the world with her laughter and kindness, was born on March 13, 1949, in Cleveland, Ohio. She left this earth on February 25, 2025, in Huber Heights, Ohio, yet her spirit will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew her.
Kay's professional journey was as fulfilling as it was commendable. She dedicated herself to helping children as a drug counselor, ensuring they found hope and direction in the most challenging times. Later in life, she partnered with her husband, Antonin Pavlicek, in the rehabilitation of historical homes. Together, they brought new life to these structures, reflecting their passion for both history and craftsmanship.
Her educational path began at Murray Wright High School and continued through Wayne County Community College, culminating in a Bachelor of Science Degree from Wayne State University. This pursuit of knowledge framed Kay’s life, enriching her world and the lives of those around her.
Kay’s personality shone like a beacon. Fun, light-hearted, and jovial, she was often the one to lighten a room with her infectious humor. Her ability to care deeply for others was apparent in all she did, from counseling children to being a beacon of support in her community. For 23 years, she served as a Deacon at Faith Memorial Lutheran Church in Detroit, Michigan, committing her time to assist shut-ins with communion and providing love and support to those in need.
Outside of her impressive career and community service, Kay embraced creative hobbies that reflected her joyful spirit. She thrived in creating artwork, crafting beautifully, and making jewelry that showcased her talent. Dance filled her heart with joy, and moments spent enjoying life became treasured memories for her and those fortunate enough to join in her laughter.
In addition to her husband Antonin, Kay was preceded in death by her sister, Viola Biechler; mother, Mary Morrison-Mukumoto; and father, Kiyoshi Mukumoto.
Kay is fondly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Ryan Calhoun; her grandchildren, Cameron, Aviana, and Mason; and her beloved sisters, Irene and Yuki. She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who were touched by her kindness.
