Kattie Gamble

January 15, 1933 — June 12, 2017

Our beloved Kattie Pearl (Knight) Gamble gained her angel wings peacefully at Good Samaritan Hospital on June 12, 2017.

Kattie was born to Abraham Knight and Jennie Dawkins January 15, 1933 in Headland Alabama. Kattie grew up on a farm in Dothan, Alabama and this is where she spent the first 15 years of her life. After her parents passed (both by the age of 15) Kattie was employed by several families as a housekeeper until she met her husband, Mr. Eston Gamble. She and Eston went on to have two children in Dothan, a daughter Dorothy who died in her infancy and a son David Gamble. After moving to Dayton for Eston's work they had another son Michael, who was murdered in 1993.

In 1959 Kattie and Eston purchased a home on 32 Edith Street. Kattie and Eston separated in in 1971 at which time Kattie decided to continue her life in Dayton while Eston returned to Alabama. Kattie stayed employed at St. Elizabeth Hospital as a housekeeper, paying off her home in 1979 and retiring in 1996. Kattie then went on to be a personal houskeeper for a local family until her retirement in 2016. Kattie lived in her home until 2016 when tragedy struck and deemed the structure that she had called her own, unlivable. Kattie lived her last days still full of love and life but with a broken heart from the loss of her home. Riding or walking down Edith Street, you were almost guaranteed to see "Mrs. Gamble" working in her yard or garden that she took so much pride in. Kattie was also a long time member of Prayer Garden Church and a faithful believer in Jesus Christ. She enjoyed and was best at being a grandma, mom and friend. She was great at bowling and could cook a mean batch of collard greens with country ham!

Kattie leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved son, David Gamble; granddaughters: Brandi (Melvin) Milliner and Jessica Gamble; grandsons: David Karlson, Graham Gamble and Timmy Days; great-grandchildren: Jayden and Chayce Morrissey, Meleeyah Milliner, Niya Young, Carianah Thomas and T'Asia Days; devoted nieces and nephews: Deborah Knight, Robin Sneed, Bernard (Marla) Gamble, Karl (Marilyn) Sneed, Keith (Sheila) Sneed and Craig Sneed; as well as a vast host of other nieces and nephews. Kattie also had a wealth of devoted and special friends.
Kattie was preceded in death by her parents: Abraham Knight and Jennie Dawkins; ex-husband, Eston Gamble; daughter, Dorothy Gamble; son, Michael Gamble; brothers and sisters: Lula Mae, Marvin "BayBoy", Shelby "Tat", John Henry "Man", Quilla, Cliff, Verleta, Grady "Grease", Willie "Tip", Mary Alice, Annie Shelly, Mattie, Ida Pearl Knight and Eddie Lee "Moody" Coleman, all of Dothan Alabama.

Katties presence at 32 Edith and her sweet spirit will be truly missed but her heart is now mended and she is at peace with her baby boy Michael and baby girl Dorothy by her side and of course all of the other loved ones that went before her.
