Kathleen “Kathy” Dwyer, age 80, a resident of Dayton and Cincinnati, Ohio, died on Monday, June 10, 2024. She was born to John and Mary Dwyer on May 11, 1944 in Dayton, Ohio. Known as Sister John Joseph of The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, Kathy answered God's calling by working as an English teacher at Bishop Hartley High School in Columbus, Ohio and at her alma mater, Julienne High School in Dayton. She also contributed her talents as a commercial artist for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and as a writer for the Catholic Telegraph. After leaving the order, Kathy worked as a commercial artist. She spent her free time creating her own artwork, being a devotee of the musical arts and as an accomplished singer of choral music with various civic and church groups.
In addition to her parents, Kathy is preceded in death by her sister, Mary “Pat” Dwyer, with whom she had a close and devoted relationship throughout their lives. She is survived by her cousins, Glenn Alexander, Paul Alexander, Mike Weaver, Steve Weaver, Tom Weaver and other members of the extended family. She was blessed to have Carol Kessler and Patty Ioas as caregivers for her and her sister's final years.
Kathy's final resting place will be with Pat at Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio in a private service. A remembrance will be held at a later date. For more information, email weaversteve411@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kathy's name to the Alzheimer's Association.
