Kate Messmore

Kate Messmore, age 88, of Beavercreek and formerly from Columbus, passed into the arms of Jesus on July 20, 2013.

She was born March 4,1925 in Los Angeles to Paul and Julia Tolmasoff. She is preceded in death by her husband William Louis Messmore, whom she met in Los Angeles during World War II and sisters Hazel Romanoff, Sally Siapin, and Vera Kornoff , and brothers Steve and Bill Tolmasoff.

She is survived by sons Robert (with wife Betty) of Beavercreek, Ohio and Tom (with wife Karen) from Tucson AZ, grandchildren Amanda Leimbach (husband Nick), Jonathan Messmore, step-granddaughter Cherie Stanfield (with husband Brandon) and great granddaughter Olivia.

Kate was a member of St. Andrews Methodist Church in Beavercreek Ohio and enjoyed the quilting group there until moving to the Patriot Ridge Alzheimer's care facility in Fairborn, Ohio when she could no longer attend. Prior to her disease, she was an avid reader, loved taking care of just about any wild animal that crossed her path, including stray cats. Birds would line up by the hundreds waiting for her morning and evening feeding ritual. Kate also grew some prize roses and other flowers.

If you were related in any way to her you could be sure of getting a birthday and Christmas card and one of her hand crafted gifts. She enjoyed sewing and especially quilting. She had such a great smile and spoiled her grandchildren Amanda and Jonathan until they were adults. She was also blessed to be a great grandmother 'Boonya' to Olivia and as Auntie Katie to scores of 1st and 2nd nephews and nieces, who are now scattered across the country.

Favorite memories: bringing home Krispy Kreme doughnuts from work, homemade euchre club favors, beef and noodles, cookie care packages, yearly hand-sewn pajamas, family trips to California, Bill and Kate's trip to Europe, fabulous flower gardens, the family dogs, lemon meringue pie, watching wheel of fortune, cat design sweatshirts and stuffed animals.

The family wants to give heart felt thanks to Patriot Ridge Community for their genuine loving care afforded to Kate the last couple of years and to the wonderful hospice care she recently received from Hospice of Dayton.

There will be a viewing at Newcomer Funeral Home in Beavercreek, Ohio on Sunday, Aug 4th from 2pm to 4pm followed by a service there at 4pm. Graveside service will be at the Sunbury, Ohio cemetery at 10am Monday Aug 5th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Humane Society of Greene County, 187 Bellbrook Ave., Xenia, OH 45385.
