Karen Harlow, age 80, passed away Thursday August 22, 2024. She was born Karen Sue Sloan on Sept. 22, 1943, to the late Marion and Marian (Weimer) Sloan in Dayton. Karen had passion for dance at a very early age, earning local notoriety through numerous competitions and performances until an unfortunate back injury limited her performance career. After her marriage to the late Robert “Snip” Harlow, Karen started Karen’s School of Dance, offering a wide variety of dance instruction. Her reputation as a dance instructor gave her an opportunity to support movement programs at Four Oaks School in Xenia, which eventually led to a teacher aide position and a career there that spanned over 30 years. Through her children’s participation she became a strong supporter of Beavercreek athletics, even serving as one of the early cheerleading coaches in the Eager Beaver Football program. Even in her retirement she assisted at many Beavercreek athletic meets and games providing support when she could. Karen also developed a love of Ohio State athletics, particularly football, and became a passionate fan.
Karen is survived by her children Mark (Susan) Harlow, Kelly (Art) Painter, and J.R. (Angel) Harlow, grandchildren Ben and Nick Harlow, Alyssa Painter and Kristina Short (John), and Amelia and Charles Harlow, great-grandchildren Aiden, Bailey, and Colton, and niece Robyn Harlow.
