Judith Lee Mitchell passed away in Oakwood, Ohio on 6/26/2021, age 86. She was born in Williamsport PA, the daughter of Cecelia & Herbert Lyon. Judy came to live in Dayton, Ohio with her uncle after the death of her parents at the age of 14.
She met her future husband Myron at St. Mark's Lutheran Church and they were later married there on June 11th, 1955. Their union lasted for 49 years until his death in 2006. Judy is survived by two daughters, Laura Dutiel (Scott) and Anne Mitchell (Terri), and her three grandchildren, Matthew, Samantha & Nicholas.
Judy graduated from Patterson Co-Op High School in '52. She worked as a secretary in the Executive Office of National Cash Register Company until 1960, and then served as the school Secretary at C.F. Holliday Elementary School.
In 1973 Judy started work at 3rd National Bank as the secretary to the Vice President. She stayed through the bank's transitions to Society Bank and Key Bank and retired in 1996 as Administrative Officer and Assistant Secretary to the Advisory Board of Directors of the Southern Region.
After retirement in 1996 Judy and Myron traveled extensively, enjoying many adventures together throughout the United States and Europe. She served as a volunteer for Suicide Prevention, at Kettering Hospital surgical reception, and on fund drives for cancer and heart disease research.
In recent years Judy derived deep satisfaction from her involvement with St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Oakwood, which she joined in 2015. She was honored to serve in numerous capacities at the church including being a Lay Eucharistic Minister and reader, Chair of the Welcome and Hospitality Committee, Coordinator of the First Impressions Count Committee, and Kitchen and Funeral reception Coordinator. She was proud to co-chair three successful stewardship campaigns and was a member of the Vestry. Judy was known for her uncanny way of making any person feel welcome, heard and important. Her keen instincts about human nature allowed her to meet everyone on their own terms, and she brought out the best in all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers donations in her name can be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church and Hospice of Dayton.
