Juanita Collins

September 7, 1928 — October 13, 2024

Huber Heights

Juanita Collins, lovingly known as Nita, was born on September 7, 1928, in the quaint town of Rogers, Texas. She departed this world on October 13, 2024, leaving behind a vibrant legacy woven with love, resilience, and an indomitable spirit. Nita's life was marked by her unwavering energy and her ability to light up any room with her smile.

For nearly a decade, from 1998 to 2007, Nita devoted herself to her role at Target in Huber Heights. This chapter of her life not only attests to her work ethic and dedication, but also highlights her commitment to community and connection with those she encountered daily. Nita’s proudest accomplishments were raising her five beloved children and cultivating a rewarding job — both a testament to her strength and nurturing nature.

An ardent lover of life’s simple pleasures, Nita found joy in travel, camping, and boating. Her passion for gardening shone through as she lovingly tended to her flowers, adding beauty to her home and heart. As she embraced each day, it was her zest for life that inspired friends and family to treasure every moment.

Nita’s familial bonds were profound, and she cherished her relationships dearly. She leaves behind her beloved children: Sandra Collins, Joyce Copenhaver and her husband Jeff, and Gary Collins and his wife Joie. Nita was a devoted grandmother to Doug Copenhaver and his wife Katy, Gary B. Collins and his wife Stephanie, Daniel Collins and his wife Dolores, Amanda Copenhaver, Neil Collins and his wife Samantha, and Shelley Collins. She took great pride in the joy brought by her 12 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends.

Nita is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Samuel Collins, and by a constellation of loved ones including her parents John and Valta Pierce, as well as her sons John and Ken Collins, and daughter Judy Collins. She was also preceded her in journey by brothers, James “Sonny” Pierce and Donald Pierce, and her sister Bobbie Pruitt.

As we gather to celebrate Nita’s life, we are reminded of the warmth she brought into our lives. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on October 17, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a funeral service commencing at 3:00 PM, both taking place at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424. Nita will be laid to rest privately with her husband at Dayton National Cemetery.
