Joyce Ann Wofford, age 85 of Beavercreek, formerly of Fairborn, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2021 at her home. She was born January 10, 1936 in North Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of the late John and Dora Chapman.
Joyce graduated from Jefferson West High School in Meridan, Kansas in 1953, where she was Valedictorian of her class. She enjoyed cheer leading, playing basketball and was an active member of the student council. She met her husband when they both worked for the Air Force Supply Depot in Topeka, Kansas. Their work moved them from Kansas to Mobile, Alabama and eventually Ohio.
Joyce was a devout member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fairborn, where she enjoyed being a part of the "Church Ladies" Circle Group. She was an active member of the Red Hat Ladies and enjoyed meeting with the Laddie Lassies in her neighborhood. She and her husband were avid square dancers and members of the Wayne Squares Club.
Joyce's fighting spirit and sense of humor led her through 16 years of Ovarian Cancer. She will be fondly remembered for her gift of gab, excessive holiday decorations, her love of parties, traveling and devotion to her family, especially her grandchildren...but not so much for her "safe" driving abilities.
Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, James L. Wofford; brothers, John L. Chapman & Roy D. Chapman and sons-in-law, Joe Ernst & Eric Bury.
Joyce is survived by her daughters, Lisa Ernst & Lori Bury; grandchildren, Nathan Bury, Emily (John) Hoffman, Joshua (Taylor) Ernst & Amelia (Oakley) Clay; great grandchild, Blake Bury; sister-in-law, Karen (Vernice) Zachariasen; and many other loving family members and close friends.
Memorial contributions can be made to First Presbyterian Church of Fairborn - or - Hospice of Dayton in Joyce's honor.
Joyce's family will receive friends and family on Saturday, April 10, 2021 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm where her love of sweets will be remembered with a dessert bar. A Celebration of Life to follow at 2:30 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Beavercreek Chapel (3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432).
