Joyce Louise Erwin

August 7, 1940 — May 13, 2023

Joyce Louise Erwin, 82 years of age, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2023 surrounded by her family.

Joyce was born August 7, 1940 in Blairs Mills, Kentucky to the late Neute and Allie Elam. Joyce was the youngest of 6 children, all of which preceded her in death.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Karl of 64 years, and her son, Mike (Kim) Erwin, Vicki (Thad) Laywell; 4 grandchildren, Chelsea (Rob) Waugh, Allie Dyer, Andrew (Morgan) Dyer and Austin Dyer. Joyce had 5 great grandchildren who were the delight of her heart; Rubie Elam Waugh, Sutton James Waugh, Michaela Bryge Waugh, Silas Andrew Dyer and Saige Elizabeth Dyer. Joyce is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Joyce and Karl were married on October 4, 1958 and started their life long journey together. They were always camping, hunting, or fishing. Wherever Karl went Joyce was always with him and their children. Joyce's passion in life was her family. She was a homemaker and loved caring for her family. Every Christmas, she made candy, chocolate covered cherries, buckeyes, fudge and the list goes on. She would deliver plates full of her Christmas goodies to her family and friends.

Joyce and Karl always had at least one dog and the last one she had was her beloved Cory. Cory gave her great comfort and could always be found in her lap.

Joyce loved babies, from taking care of her many nieces and nephews when she was younger, to the absolute joy of her heart, her grandbabies and great grandbabies. She also loved sitting on her patio rocking her babies. Joyce had many "sayings" but her most cherished was "Rey Hey Teenie" that her sister Arnetia and her loved to say. Rey Hey Teenie means something was good or exciting. This saying has definitely been passed on to their children and grandchildren.

Joyce was raised a Christian and had a great love/respect for the Lord. She always sacrificed herself for those she loved, putting their needs first. Joyce's love for her husband Karl and their family was her strength to keep her going until her last breath. She will be missed more than words could express.

Funeral service will be held at 12 PM on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 820 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd. in Centerville. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service at 11 AM. Joyce will be laid to rest at Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
