Joyce M. Brown, age 68 of Dayton, passed away October 11, 2014. She was born August 31, 1946 in Gulfport, MS to the late Walter and Arvenia Gilner. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Brown; brother, Walter S. Gilner; and sister, Lee Ann Smith.
Joyce is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Dwayne and Barbara Brown; grandchildren: Andrea, Courtney, Michaela, and Manuela; great granddaughter, Aliayah; siblings: Melvenia Barnes, Charles Gilner, Clarece Phoenix, Bernice Johnson, Lela Fairley, Daisy Officer and John L. Gilner; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Joyce graduated from Locker High School in 1965; and attended City College of Chicago, University of Texas and University of Nebraska. She was the Child Development Youth Specialist Director at WPAFB and retired after 28 ½ years of service. She was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary, National Air Force School Association, NAEYC, Eastern Star, England District Grand Worthy Matron, and volunteered at Chapel 3.
Services will be held in Perkinston, Mississippi at Sweet Beulah Baptist Church with burial at the adjacent cemetery. Local arrangements by Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road. Owens Ramey Funeral Service will handle arrangements in Mississippi.
