Joshua David Ort

July 31, 1977 — January 31, 2025

Dayton, Ohio

In Loving Memory of Joshua David Ort:

On Friday, January 31, 2025, Joshua Ort, 47 years old, left us far too soon. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. Josh was born on July 31, 1977, in Dayton, Ohio, to David Ort and Carolyn (Clark) Prater.

Josh was an extraordinary man known for his infectious sense of humor, boundless kindness and unwavering work ethic. He dedicated himself to everything he did, always striving to give his best. His love and care for his family, friends and community were immeasurable. His warm spirit will forever live on in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Josh possessed a calm and gentle nature that made him a source of comfort and strength to his family and friends. He leaves behind a deep and irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who knew him.

Josh had a deep love for cars and racing whether it was watching races, working on his own car, or simply sharing his passion with others. His enthusiasm wasn’t just about speed but the thrill of the chase and the camaraderie it brought. It was a reflection of his life - always full throttle, moving forward.

In addition to his love of cars, Josh was an avid fan of the New York Giants. He wore his Giants’ pride with passion, never missing an opportunity to cheer them on. His excitement and energy during football season was evident when he shared countless memories of victories and defeats when his favorite team took the field.

Josh is survived by wife, Lyn Ort; daughter, Shelby (Tim); grandchildren Kiya, Beau, and Weston Bretelson; daughter, Kelsey (Jesse); grandson, Axel David Buhrman; mother, Carolyn Prater; stepfather, Thomas Downing Jr.; sister, Letitia Newton (Bob Minton); brothers: Brandon Ort and Kyle Downing; aunts: Sandy (Poodle) and Charla; mother in law, Pat Zingery; niece, Kirstin Minton; cousins: Tiffany, Dillon, Erika, Jeremy, and many more.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Ort; sister, Shelia Stockstill; uncle, Randy Clark; niece, Brittany Ort; cousin, Holly Adkins; grandfather, Ralph (Jim) Clark; and grandmother, Dovie Clark.

Though he is no longer with us, the memories of his laughter, love, calm presence, passion for racing, Giants’ pride, and love for his family and friends will continue to bring light to our lives. Rest in peace, Josh. You will always be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
