Josephine Pierce, age 95, of Huber Heights, passed away on July 15, 2022. She was born in Hazard, Kentucky on May 31, 1927 to the late Charles and Mary Nelms.
She was a member of the Emmanuel Church of the Brethren, which she attended, for 58 years. She was very active at her church and at community events. She taught Vacation Bible School at her church, where she was also a member of the quilting group, and she also served on the church's board.
In addition to her parents, Josephine was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, John R. Pierce Sr.; and her siblings: Mack Nelms, Dudley Nelms, Audley Nelms, Christine Piersall, and Bill Nelms.
Her memory will be cherished by her children: John (Linda) Pierce Jr., Sandra (Stephen) Leach, Jeffrey Pierce, and Susan Knecht; grandchildren: John Pierce III, Matthew (Melida) Pierce, Zachary (Beverly) Pierce, Eric (Amy) Leach, Brandon (Amy) Knecht, Gabriel Pierce, and Jolie Pierce; great-grandchildren: Megan, David, Grey, Emily, and Harper; her sisters: Laverne Begley and Helen Taylor; numerous nieces and nephews, including special niece, Rhonda Black; and extended family and friends.
A visitation will be held from 10:00am to 11:00am on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Emmanuel Church of the Brethren, 5657 Rosebury Drive, Dayton, where the funeral service will begin at 11:00am. Following the service, Josephine will be laid to rest with her husband, John Pierce Sr., at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens.
