Joseph William Houston (Joe Bill), 91 of Miamisburg, Ohio, born on December 10, 1923 in Oakley, KY, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 12, 2015.
Son of the late John D. and Lida Houston. Proceeded in death by son, Michael Alan. Sisters: Gertrude Brewer, Pauline Coffey, Flodie Baldwin, Beatrice Mefford and Lida Osborne. Brothers: Jewell and James Ray.
Survived by his wife of 68 years, Maud Evelyn. Three sons: William A. (wife Darien), of Miamisburg, Daniel J. of Evarts, KY and Joseph Criss of Miamisburg. Two daughters: Sue, of Hillsboro and Brenda G., of Miamisburg. Eight grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Sister, Irene Eldridge of Louellen and brother, John D. Houston, of New Lebanon and a host of nieces and nephews.
Served in WWII & received an honorable discharge from the Navy Air Corp after two years of service. Resident of Ohio for 64 years. Employed by Dayton Press for 30 years. He was a charter member of Dryden Road Pentecostal Church and faithfully attended there for 64 years. Over the years he was dedicated to visitation to the sick and shut-in's, to raising a big garden and graciously sharing the harvest. He was also known as the "Candy Man" all across the country to those he knew and many he just came in contact with.
He was a faithful husband, dad, papaw and special friend to many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 16, 2015 from 5-8pm at Dryden Road Pentecostal Church (3201 Dryden Road). The service will be held on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 12pm at the church, with Rev Bennie Sutherland & Rev Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will take place at Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
