Joseph L. Thies, Sr., age 67, of Dayton, passed away October 14, 2010. He was born October 31, 1942 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Theodore and Helen Thies. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by brothers: Norm, Ben and Dick Thies; and sister, Alice Steger.
Joe is survived by his wife of 46 years, Wyllene Thies; children: Joe Thies, Jr. (Karen), Lori Horn (David), Lisa Gould (Tim, Sr.), Jim Thies (Kim), and Quentin Thies; grandchildren: Joey, III and Tommy Thies, Cody, Dustin and Jessie Horn, Timothy, Jr., Travis and Tyler Gould, Michelle Flynn and Brandon Thies; great grandson, Jeffrey Paxton; brother, Raymond Thies, Sr. (Nancy); sisters: Phyllis Trick (Joseph) and Lucy Howard (Bill); sisters-in-law: Mary Al, Bea and Rosie Thies; brother-in-law, Tom Steger; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Joe graduated from Stebbins High School, class of 1961. He was a member of Knights of Columbus # 4424 and Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. He was a lifetime farmer and a foster parent of 136 children for more than 20 years. He retired from Local Carpenters # 104.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Road. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Monday at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 22 Notre Dame Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45404. Fr. Mike Holloran, Celebrant. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
