Joseph Amos Carr, 88, of Kettering, passed peacefully in his sleep Monday, January 04, 2010, after a lengthy illness.
He was born August 3, 1921, in Gratis, OH to Scott W., Sr. and Amy (Young) Carr. Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Betty Jane (Burkholder) Carr. He is also survived by three daughters and their husbands: Gale and Michael Hatfield, Josephine and Wayne Stamm, and Nancy and Stephen Maltby; (4) grandchildren: Tracey (Stamm) and Brian Johnson, Dustin and Kristen Stamm, Meredith (Maltby) and Eric Holmgren, and Heather Maltby; (4) great-grandchildren: Calianne, Baylee, and Campbell Johnson; and Joseph Stamm; (3) nephews: Steve Wright, Gene Carr, and Herbert Carr.
Joe was a proud U.S. Navy WWII veteran having served as a Torpedoman's Mate First Class aboard the U.S.S. Belleau Wood. Joe proudly passed his sense of honor and patriotism to each and every member of his family. After his time in the service, Joe worked for and retired from NCR and Delco after many years of service.
The Family would like to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to the many staff and physicians at St. Leonard Health Care and Rehabilitation Center; and also to the Hospice Crisis Care.
Family will receive guests, Friday, January 8, 2010 from 2:30 to 3:30 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home and Crematory (3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, OH 45439) with services immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Leonard's Health Center or Hospice of Dayton.
