Joseph Bohanan

December 2, 1952 — March 10, 2023

Joseph William Bohanan, Jr. aka "Bo" or "Joe" went to Heaven on March 10, 2023, after a lengthy illness.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 45 years, Cynthia "Sue" Bohanan; daughter, Michelle Lynn Bohanan DeCamp and son-in-law William "Bill" DeCamp; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sister, JoAnn Cansler-Connell; and many nieces and nephews.

Joe was born in Dayton, Ohio, and lived in Middletown when he was young. His uncle, Vandalia Police LT. James E. Bohanan, convinced the family to move to Vandalia, Ohio, where he graduated high school in 1971. Joe was a very proud American and immediately became a Marine, following in the footsteps of his loving father and grandfather. He served in the Vietnam war and later received an honorable discharge in order to take care of his mother when his father died suddenly of a heart attack. He worked out of Dayton Millwright Union Hall, then later got into selling antiques and collectibles.

Joe met Sue through his uncle James' daughter, Darlene Bohanan, on a blind date. They have been together for over 45 years. He was always a loving husband to her. He loved joking and telling stories about being in the service, riding motorcycles, or collecting vintage items.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the funeral home to help cover funeral costs. There will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate Joe's life and a fundraiser at the American Legion post 668 on Dixie Drive in Butler township Saturday, June 3 from 4 to 9 pm. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at 10:00 am at Deerfield Cemetery in South Lebanon, Ohio. Burial will be at Deerfield Cemetery in South Lebanon alongside his parents, Joseph and Dorothy Bohanan.
