ZAMPATTI, John age 89 passed away Friday, April 15, 2011 at Hospice of Dayton.
He was born in New York City on 10 May, 1921, and was a graduate of Queens College, City of New York, the University of Dayton, and Wright State University. He served with the U.S. Air Force during WWII from 1943 to 1946, with the 422nd (B-17) Bomb Squadron, 305th Bomb Group as a Navigator, with 35 combat missions over Europe.
He retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base in 1977 as a Supervisory Program Engineer. John was an instrument rated private pilot for over 30 years. He was a member of Kirkmont Presbyterian Church and a volunteer at the Miami Valley Cable Council where he produced video programs, winning many awards as well as being acknowledged as a volunteer of the year in 1990.
He was also a volunteer for many years at the Wright Field Air Force Base Hospital as part of the Patient Escort Transportation Service (PETS).
He is preceded in death by one daughter, Joyce Ann and sister, Anna Dion.
He is survived by his wife, Nadine; two sons, John A. and Ricardo J.; one grandson, Jonathan R. E.; and sister, Teresa Schofield.
A gathering of friends will be held Saturday, April 23, 2011 from 1:00 pm until the time of service at 2:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home- Beavercreek Chapel, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hospice of Dayton or to the charity of your choice.
