John M. Welks, age 88 of Kettering, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Hospice of Dayton surrounded by family. He was born January 9, 1935 in Clarksburg, West Virginia the son of the late Nicholas and Catherine Welks.
John graduated from Victory High School in 1953. He proudly served in the Ohio Army National Guard where he was honorably discharged in 1963 as an artillery communication specialist and wireman. He worked for A&P Grocers as a produce manager, where he retired and began a career at Delco Products GM - Kettering as a dust shield welder. This is where he met the love of his life, Glennis and they later married on June 10, 1995. They focused their love and support among their family and many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed golf, but his love was bowling where he continued the sport for over 60 years. John will be missed and loved by many.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Don Welks; sister, Kathleen Welks and step son, D. Warren Reynolds.
John is survived by his wife of 28 years, Glennis F. (Stephens) Welks; children, Ramona (Anthony) Newbauer and Sharma (Roy) Darby; grandchildren, Phillip Malone, Paul (Darla) Malone, Mathew (Margarita) Habib, Jamie (Angie) Watson, Jeremy (Amanda) Watson and Justin Watson; great grandchildren, Anthony, Dylan, Haley, Scotty, Jase, Ben, Brooklyn, Willow, Jaxson and Jacob; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the care teams at Kettering Hospital Main - MSICU and Hospice of Dayton who truly made his time there peaceful and comfortable.
Memorial Services will be Friday, November 10th at 2:00 pm at Woodland Cemetery - Mausoleum located at 281 Dayton Ave, Xenia OH 45385. When entering the cemetery turn right at the first outer drive and follow to the mausoleum. Gathering begins at 2:00 pm and Services begin at 2:30 pm.
