John Gregory Ward left us too soon on March 25, 2018. He was born on March 23, 1948 and attended Belmont High School. John loved to have a good time, and you always had a good time when you were with him. He rooted for the Cincinnati Reds, was a loyal Cleveland Browns fan, was always ready for a card game, and made the best chili. He was a great joke teller, and you may have heard a few from him if he ever served you in the bartending phase of his life. Between war, illnesses, and accidents, John would often say that he was amazed he was still here and that God must have had a plan for him, usually to be with Linda, the best thing that ever happened to him. He always said that he had a good life and would not change a thing. His sisters always accused him of being his parents' favorite, and that must be why they wanted him to join them first. He will now be entertaining all of heaven with his jokes and magic tricks. John was a Vietnam Veteran and was proud to finally be thanked for his service during the Wounded Warrior Event at Wright State University. Children and pets loved him. John was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Elaine Ward and his daughter Gwen Lee Comfort. John will be missed by many loved ones including his wife, Linda Combs, sisters Rita (Bud) McFarlin and Jackie Frederick, step-daughter Tina (Tim) Stansell, granddaughter Sonni Moore, great-grandchildren Jordyn, Timothy, and Kloe, many nieces and nephews, and his two best friends (brothers from another mother) Tom Wedig and Steve Taylor. A private memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org ). And, for John, always remember to thank a Vet, have a beer with a friend, pet a cat, and kiss your loved ones.
