John W Johnson

JOHNSON, John Charles Wendell, Sr. (J.J.) Age 74, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2008. He was born June 21, 1934 in Carnegie, PA, to the late Richard and Margaret Johnson. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia; brothers Richard and Harvey; and sister Verna Pollard. John graduated in 1952 from Carnegie High School in Carnegie, PA. He joined the United States Air Force in 1956 where he served for 30 years in Inventory Management & Logistics and retired at the highest enlisted grade of Chief Master Sergeant. After John's retirement, he worked for several years as a civilian in the Veteran's Administration Hospital. John enjoyed his days touching the lives of those he knew with his wisdom and humor. John is survived by his sister Frances Freeman of Pittsburgh, PA; brother Finley Johnson (Marie) of Savannah, GA; children Cynthia Garrett of Chicago, IL, Donna Johnson (Brandon Hardison) of Atlanta, GA, John C. Johnson, Jr. (Lisa) of Kettering, OH, and Pia Upchurch (Glenn)of Collegeville, PA; grandchildren William Denton, Kai Lewis, Nicole Johnson, Paige Johnson, and Jasmine Upchurch; great grandchildren Yahri Edmond, Amelia Denton, and Kailee Lewis; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and many caring friends, including those he met through his 21 year association with the Friends of Bill W. Funeral services will be held 1:00PM Wednesday October 22, 2008 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road. Viewing for friends will be an hour prior to the service at 12:00 pm. Interment and military services will follow the funeral at Dayton National Cemetery.
