Colonel John R. Tilton, USAF (Ret.), age 76 of Washington Twp., passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born October 22, 1946 in Jacksonville, Florida, the son of the late John and Clyda Tilton.
John's involvement with the USAF started as a child of an Air Force family, and it continued through 26 years of active duty with him retiring as a Colonel. He served primarily as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer and Director of Logistics in many locations around the world and he retired from WPAFB in 1993. During one of his assignments in California, he met and married the love of his life, Pamela (nee Casale), affectionately known as Miss Pam. After his active duty time, he worked as a defense contractor, supporting Wright Patterson Air Force Base until he really retired in 2012. He and Pam ultimately settled in Washington Township and they also enjoyed a vacation home on Lake Buckhorn near Millersburg, Ohio. The "cabin" was John's happy place where he and Pam entertained family and friends for many years. He and Pam adopted two Greyhounds: Rowdy and Apollo, who he loved dearly. John was also an avid fly fisherman and golfer. He was a member of Sugar Valley Golf Club for many years. John was also a volunteer with the Centerville Citizen's Police Academy and enjoyed gathering with his friends on Thursday morning for breakfast and friendship.
John is survived by his wife, Pamela; daughter, Angela Tilton; brother, David (Linda) Tilton; granddaughter, Kacie Petty; niece, Allison Tilton; nephew, John "Jay" Tilton; as well as numerous extended family members and many friends, and beloved Greyhound, Apollo.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved Greyhound, Rowdy.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Dayton National Cemetery (4400 W. Third Street, Dayton, OH 45428) - Assembly Area B.
