John T. "Jack" Collopy, age 91, of Centerville. Born October 21, 1920 in Washington Court House, to Ward & Elizabeth Collopy.
Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean Davis; and his wife, of 65 years, Virginia "Ginny" Collopy (Pridmore).
Dad wore many hats and was an entrepreneur. He was the winner of the 1934 Soap Box Derby. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. While stationed in New York, he met his future bride. After they were married they settled down in Dayton, where they raised their four daughters. Dad worked full time in a supervisor role at the main post office downtown. He belonged to the K of C. While working full time he somehow managed to be a real estate broker for over 50 years. He build 22 homes, several of which were in the Parade of Homes. He also owned, developed, and operated Super Duper and Great Value Grocery Stores, Airway Fashions and Dimensions in Fashions. He always seemed to have a story to tell and was generous to a fault.
Thanks for the great memories Dad, we know you are now with your pretty little bride once again.
John is survived by his daughters, Kathy Collopy, Mary (Ron) Barber, both of Sarasota, FL, Dottie (Dan) Kick, of Tolland, CT., Denise (Wayne) Christie, of Centerville, OH., grandson, Ron Barber; granddaughters, Denise Renee Klopf, Stacey McIntire, Tami, Michelle, and Heather Kick, Marla, Andrea, and Theresa Christie; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Tawnney for her love and care during the last 4 years. As Dad would say, "what would we do without Tawnney?" She made it possible for us to keep them home as long as we did.
